Red and Blue View: Potential 2021/22 duo must start for Palace vs Tottenham

7 Players Who Had A Euros To Forget

At 19:15 this evening, Crystal Palace travel across London to take on José Mourinho’s Tottenham, who have won three games in a row.

Last time out on their own turf, Gareth Bale netted twice, while Harry Kane also scored as Heung-min Son caused chaos alongside them.

In that respect, we could be in for a tough game.

However, because of that, why not experiment with the team a little bit?

In our view, Roy Hodgson should do something he hasn’t done yet – start Wilfried Zaha and Jean-Philippe Mateta up top together.

Aside from the two having contrasting traits which could blend well together, we feel this decision should also be made with one eye on the future.

In what sense?

Well, Christian Benteke finds himself out of contract in June, so if he leaves, then you’d presume Zaha and Mateta will be first-choice strikers next season, especially as Michy Batshuayi will also return to Chelsea.

If that does happen, it would be wise to give the pair some playing time alongside each other in the final 11 games of the Premier League season.

That way, they would be able to familiarise themselves with how the other plays.

The danger of not doing this now is that we end up wasting some games next season, as the pair get to grips with each other out on the field.

Hopefully, Hodgson isn’t his usual predictable self and mixes things up a little in attack against the north Londoners tonight.
