Crystal Palace are now being linked with Premier League defender Eric Dier this summer transfer window.
That’s according to 90min.
So, what’s the latest on Crystal Palace’s interest in Eric Dier? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
The report from 90min suggests that Eric Dier could leave this summer transfer window. The player was not even selected in the squad for Spurs’ first game of the season against Brentford.
Apparently, a number of teams are considering a move for him this summer. Dier has left than a year left on his contract and no extension is being discussed.
Crystal Palace and Celtic are two clubs who are ‘admirers’ of Dier. For now, they have not taken their interest any further but they are monitoring his situation.
The report goes on to say that Monaco and a number of teams in the Bundesliga are also interested in the Tottenham defender.
Crystal Palace do need squad depth
The squad at Crystal Palace is arguably weaker than it was last season. Therefore, a cheap move for someone like Dier is a decent transfer.
The issue is that the club currently have two top centre-backs and the wages of Dier are currently £85k-a-week. Therefore, it doesn’t seem like the most sensible signing to make.
The 29 year-old would definitely add squad depth but the Eagles desperately need some more attacking signings before the transfer window closes.
It feels like it is now a huge summer for the club if we do truly want to try and battle for a top-half finish this Premier League season.
The Eagles have been in the Premier League for over a decade and if they do not show some more ambition then they could be dragged into a relegation battle this summer.
It will be really interesting to see how the transfer window plays out for Crystal Palace. Signing Dier would feel like a bit of a waste of money in their current position.
