Crystal Palace bid £22m to sign 'aggressive' player, but he'd prefer to join Liverpool

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

Crystal Palace have made a bid to sign Perr Schuurs from Torino – although he would prefer to join Liverpool.

That is according to Tutto Mercato Web.

So, what are the details involving Perr Schuurs and Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Italian news outlet believe we have submitted a €25m (£22m) bid for the 23-year-old.

Schuurs is said to be aware of the offer, although he is delaying a response as he waits for Liverpool to make a move – Newcastle are also mentioned as one of his preferred destinations ahead of Crystal Palace.

AC Milan and Napoli are also interested in the Dutchman, although it seems the Italian giants will not be able to compete with the financial power of those in the Premier League.

Schuurs – who Michael Owen once called an “aggressive” defender – enjoyed a tremendous 2022/23 campaign with Torino, making 30 league appearances as the Italian side finished tenth in Serie A.

Bid for Schuurs suggests Palace expect to lose Andersen or Guehi

In our view, the £22m bid for Schuurs suggests we are planning for life after Marc Guehi or Joachim Andersen.

The centre-back department at Selhurst Park is already quite strong, with James Tomkins and Chris Richards also there to challenge Andersen and Guehi – Joel Ward can play centrally if need be as well.

Therefore, the fact we have bid a significant amount for another centre-back in Schuurs suggests Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman expect Guehi or Andersen to leave SE25 this summer.

Hopefully, that does not turn out to be the case.

However, if Schuurs is arriving to replace somebody, there can be few complaints, as he is one of the best young defenders across Europe.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as a move for Schuurs should advance if offers arrive for Guehi or Andersen.
