Roy Hodgson set to add 45 year-old who made over 200 appearances for Crystal Palace to backroom staff

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

The latest report suggests that Roy Hodgson is set to bring Shaun Derry back to the Crystal Palace backroom staff this summer.

That’s according to LondonNewsOnline.

So, what’s the latest news around Derry returning to the coaching staff at Palace this summer. Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

The report from LondonNewsOnline suggests that Roy Hodgson is adding Derry into his backroom team at Crystal Palace.

This is big news as Derry was involved in the coaching staff before but left in February due to being axed by former manager Patrick Vieira.

Interesting news from the report claims that Derry never actually officially left the club despite being axed last season.

Derry is a fan-favourite at the Eagles for his time here as a player. He was in the famous team that managed to survive relegation in 2010 and also made 222 appearances for the club.

Shaun Derry returning to Crystal Palace is great news

It is great news for the club that the 45 year-old will be returning to the club this summer. With Roy Hodgson announced as manager and the backroom staff all sorted, the club can now focus on transfers.

Derry as a player was a rough, hard-tackling defensive midfielder. He had a lot of passion and was very competitive. This type of mentality will be great to have back at the club.

With Paddy McCarthy also involved in the staff as well as Hodgson and Ray Lewington, it feels like the dugout has a proper Palace feel right now. It would be great to see the group have some success with Palace this season.

There is no doubt some pressure on Palace this season. As fans, we want to see the club battling for and securing a top-half finish.

Despite being in the division for over a decade, we have only managed to finish in the top-half once. This needs to happen more.

In order to achieve this, we now need to see some attacking signings come to the club over the summer transfer window.

A solid goalscorer who can consistently manage double figures would be a great addition to the squad. It would help massively.
