Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Marc Guehi is currently away from Crystal Palace on international duty with England alongside Eberechi Eze and Sam Johnstone, where he did something that impressed Jordan Pickford.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a superb start to the 2023/24 campaign alongside Joachim Andersen, helping Roy Hodgson’s side pick up seven points out of a possible 12 so far in the Premier League.
So, what did Marc Guehi do? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, England posted a nine-second video from training at St George’s Park earlier today (Thursday).
In the footage, we can see Marcus Rashford driving towards Pickford’s goal, where he breezes past both Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire in what seems to be a three-on-two training drill, with Guehi being the third defender against the Manchester United No.10 and Callum Wilson.
Just as Rashford finds a sight at goal and takes his shot, our No.6 comes out of nowhere to throw his body in the way, blocking the ball to safety.
As you can see, the challenge drew a wild celebration from Pickford, who stood in between the sticks shouting with his fists clenched, as if he’d just saved a penalty in the World Cup final.
With four England caps to his name so far, Guehi is no longer a newcomer amongst Gareth Southgate’s squad, although it is still pleasing to see one of our own, as well as someone so young, doing well for the Three Lions.
Marc Guehi is surely in line to start for England at EURO 2024 if he maintains Crystal Palace form
Even though we are just four games into the 2023/24 campaign, Guehi already looks to have grown stronger and has also become more incisive with his forward passes.
The Abidjan-born defender’s partnership with Andersen is going from strength to strength, and if he continues to shine under Roy Hodgson, we see no reason why he shouldn’t start for England at EURO 2024.
Hopefully, Guehi can avoid any serious injuries, and gets himself in that starting XI next summer.
