Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Dean Henderson has now passed his medical at Crystal Palace ahead of a permanent move from Manchester United.
That is according to The Athletic.
So, what are the details involving Dean Henderson and Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – after Vicente Guaita surprisingly refused to play – Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman have been forced into the goalkeeping market.
With Sam Johnstone performing well as No.1 in between the sticks, many assumed that a cheap option would arrive to merely act as the England international’s backup.
However, Parish and Freedman clearly have a lot of faith in Henderson, as the pair have pounced on an opportunity to sign the Manchester United glovesman on a permanent basis.
The Athletic believe the 26-year-old will cost an initial £15m plus a further £5m in additional payments.
Manchester United are signing Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce as an immediate replacement for Henderson, and both deals could even be officially announced later today (Wednesday).
The England international – who has 67 Premier League appearances to his name – has been an unused substitute in each of Manchester United’s three Premier League outings so far this season.
Dean Henderson is a smart signing by Crystal Palace
In our view, this is a clever bit of business from Parish and Freedman.
Having said that, it will undoubtedly look foolish to spend £20m on another goalkeeper if attacking reinforcements are not signed as well before Friday’s deadline, so that must be done.
Henderson looked capable of becoming England’s No.1 for many years after a stunning loan spell at Sheffield United in the 2019/20 campaign, with many Manchester United fans expecting to see him replace David de Gea in the long run.
However, the Red Devils caused his career to stagnate by failing to let him build on that strong loan move at Sheffield United – in truth, this stagnation is probably the only reason we’re in with a chance of signing Henderson, who was expected to be playing at a much higher level at this stage of his career.
It may seem silly to sign Henderson with Johnstone already at Selhurst Park, but the incoming Manchester United No.26 is four years younger, so we are clearly planning with the future in mind.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Henderson’s arrival should be announced shortly.
