What’s the story?
The results have not been looking great for the senior squad at the moment after losing back-to-back games against Everton and Luton.
No doubt this has Palace fans worried, but there is a lot to be excited about in regards to the academy. One thing to be excited about is Zach Marsh.
The forward scored a hat-trick on the weekend in a 5-4 victory over Fulham in the U18s Premier League. This now sees Marsh have 11 goals in 9 league games.
He now has three hat-tricks in the U18s Premier League this season, and five hat-tricks in all competitions, highlighting that he is on absolute fire at the moment.

The Eagles have only scored 13 goals in 13 Premier League games this season. This sees them ranked 15th in the division for goals scored.
This has been a huge reason for their poor form, and despite a world-class Michael Olise goal on the weekend, the Eagles still couldn’t pick up a result. They are also now starting to concede a lot, something we are not used to under Hodgson.
With this in mind, the form of Marsh should not go unrecognised at this current time. Of course, you cannot just thrust him straight into the first team, but he should be rewarded with some training with the first-team or a promotion to the U21s. Attackers like Jeffrey Schlupp are underperforming and need to understand that they can be dropped.
There is also the argument to get more academy stars into the first-team setup if they are performing well. If Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Tyrick Mitchell were never given a chance out of nowhere then they would not have become the players they are today.
Something needs to change at Palace as the club cannot just keep on surviving by trying to do the same thing every season.
We have put a lot of money into the academy and hopefully it is time to try and use the talents we have at our disposal over the next few years.
