First-Team Squad

The Crystal Palace squad built for the 2023/24 Premier League season boasts 30 players at first-team manager Roy Hodgson’s disposal. The Selhurst Park outfit’s senior side features four goalkeepers, 11 defenders, 12 midfielders and three forwards, including any stars the Eagles have sent out on loan.

Crystal Palace goalkeepers

Sam Johnstone

Sam Johnstone signed for Crystal Palace as a free agent after leaving West Brom at the expiration of his contract in 2022. The Manchester United product moved to the Eagles as an England goalkeeper. But he only made his Premier League bow for the south London outfit in April 2023 at Leeds United.

Dean Henderson

Manchester United agreed to sell Dean Henderson to Crystal Palace for £20m in August 2023 after a year on loan to Nottingham Forest. The England goalkeeper joined the Red Devils in his youth back in 2011. But he only made 29 senior appearances at Old Trafford despite impressing whilst out on loan.

Remi Matthews

Crystal Palace capitalised on Remi Matthews leaving Sunderland at the end of his contract to get the goalkeeper in 2021. But the Gorleston-born stopper failed to play in a single fixture over the 2021/22 season. He would spend the 2022/23 term out on loan with Scottish Premiership outfit St Johnstone.

Joe Whitworth

Patrick Vieira promoted Joe Whitworth to the Crystal Palace first-team squad ahead of the 2022/23 season. The goalkeeper and Eagles supporter had been a part of Crystal Palace’s academy since the age of 13. He would also enjoy his senior debut away to rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in March 2023.

Crystal Palace defenders

Joel Ward

Joel Ward is the longest-serving member of the Crystal Palace first-team squad after joining in 2012 from Portsmouth. Dougie Freedman paid the Fratton Park side £400k for the then-22-year-old right-back. He has since amassed more than 333 appearances for the Eagles as a versatile defensive star.

Tyrick Mitchell

Tyrick Mitchell left Brentford to join Crystal Palace’s academy in 2016 and began his first-team career in the Eagles’ squad in 2019. The homegrown talent even made his 100th senior appearance against Tottenham Hotspur in May 2023. While Mitchell also enjoyed his senior England debut in March 2023.

James Tomkins

West Ham United sold their academy product, James Tomkins, to Crystal Palace in 2016 for £10m to strengthen their London rival’s squad. He made 243 senior appearances with the Irons before ending an almost 20-year association. While the defender has gone on to feature in more than 130 fixtures.

Marc Guehi

Chelsea sold the Blues’ academy product, Marc Guehi, to Crystal Palace in 2021 in a deal worth up to £20m. The defender had only ever made two senior appearances with the Blues around loan spells at Swansea City. He has since been instrumental at Selhurst Park and made his England debut in 2022.

Joachim Andersen

Joachim Andersen secured a permanent transfer to the Premier League in 2021 after joining Crystal Palace from Lyon for £15m. The Denmark defender could cost the Eagles up to £17m after add-ons, having impressed on loan at Fulham during 2020/21. He has since been a mainstay at Selhurst Park.

Nathaniel Clyne

Nathaniel Clyne re-joined Crystal Palace’s first-team squad in 2020 after his contract at Liverpool had expired. The full-back graduated from the Eagles’ academy in 2008 before joining Southampton from 2012 to 2015. His second spell at Selhurst Park has pushed Clyne to around 200 games with the club.

Chris Richards

Bayern Munich sold Chris Richards to Crystal Palace for £8.5m after being on loan to Hoffenheim for the previous 17 months. But a leg injury would frustrate the USA star’s debut term in south London.

Nathan Ferguson

Crystal Palace signed Nathan Ferguson in the summer of 2020 after backing away from an £8m deal that January. West Brom refused to budge on the sum when the defender’s medical revealed a knee injury. He would move to Selhurst Park at the end of his contract instead for £900k in compensation.

Tayo Adaramola

Patrick Vieira moved Tayo Adaramola into the Crystal Palace first-team squad in 2022 while still their head coach. He also handed the left-back his senior debut at Selhurst Park against Hartlepool United in the FA Cup. The Ireland U21 gem first joined the club’s U12s after his mother moved from Ireland.

Sean Grehan

Crystal Palace took Sean Grehan on trial at the end of the 2021/22 season following his release from his academy side, Bohemians. The defender made a quick impression in south London and got a role in the Eagles’ Under-21 team. Roy Hodgson also promoted him to their senior squad for the 22/23 term.

Rob Holding

Crystal Palace beat the transfer deadline to sign Rob Holding from Arsenal at the close of the market in September 2023. The defender switched north for south London for an initial £1m, plus £2.5m in add-ons. He left Emirates Stadium as a two-time FA Cup winner and following 162 games since July 2016.

Crystal Palace midfielders

Michael Olise

Patrick Vieira signed Michael Olise from Reading for £8m in 2021 as his first signing as the manager of Crystal Palace. The attacker moved to Selhurst Park as the EFL’s Young Player of the Season after playing a crucial role in the Royals’ efforts. He has since been a very creative threat with the Eagles.

Jefferson Lerma

Crystal Palace capitalised on Jefferson Lerma leaving Bournemouth at the end of his contract in 2023 for a free transfer. The Colombia midfielder had established a solid reputation as a box-to-box star on the south coast. He also offered eight goals over 100 Premier League appearances with the Cherries.

Eberechi Eze

Crystal Palace raided Queens Park Rangers to get Eberechi Eze in a £19.5m deal in August 2020. The attacking midfielder had enjoyed his breakthrough in first-team football with QPR. While Eze’s career at the Eagles led to his senior England debut in June 2023 after 15 goals in 85 Premier League matches.

Matheus Franca

Crystal Palace paid Flamengo an initial £17m, rising to £26m after add-ons, to sign Matheus Franca in August 2023. The Eagles edged widespread Premier League interest to sign the highly-rated Brazil talent. He scored nine goals in 54 senior Flamengo games before turning 20 and from various roles.

Jeffrey Schlupp

Leicester City sold Jeffrey Schlupp to Crystal Palace in January 2017 for an initial £9m, rising to £12m after add-ons. The Ghana midfielder left the Foxes as a Premier League winner after helping to their historic 2015/16 title. He has since enjoyed around 200 outings with the Eagles, his single-club best.

Will Hughes

Will Hughes left Watford for Crystal Palace in a £6m, rising to £10m, transfer in 2021. The midfielder had entered into the last 12 months of his contract after four seasons at Vicarage Road. He has since offered the Eagles a steady squad player having rarely had more than a reserve role at Crystal Palace.

Malcolm Ebiowei

Crystal Palace took advantage of Malcolm Ebiowei leaving Derby County at the end of his contract to add another talented south Londoner to their first-team squad. The winger would even make his bow at home to Arsenal on the opening day of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign as a late substitute.

Cheick Doucoure

RC Lens accepted a £21m offer from Crystal Palace, including an initial £18m, for Cheick Doucoure in 2022. The Mali international had helped Les Sang et Or to a seventh-place Ligue 1 finish in 2021/22. While his debut campaign at Selhurst Park featured three assists in 34 Premier League appearances.

Naouirou Ahamada

Crystal Palace secured a deadline day deal to sign Naouirou Ahamada from Stuttgart in January 2023 for £10.5m. The midfielder burst through at the German team after joining from Juventus as a youth. But he only played 85 minutes over eight Premier League games over the rest of his debut campaign.

Jairo Riedewald

Ajax sold their academy product, Jairo Riedewald, to Crystal Palace for £8m in 2017 after nine years at the club. The Dutch midfielder had featured 93 times for the Amsterdam giants. But the Haarlem native has struggled to establish an essential first-team presence since his transfer to Selhurst Park.

Jack Wells-Morrison

Crystal Palace gave Jack Wells-Morrison his first professional contract in July 2021 after impressing in their academy. The midfielder and boyhood Eagles fan has been a part of the set-up since the age of six. His career in Crystal Palace’s academy saw Wells-Morrison play as a striker, winger and left-back.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi signed his first professional contract with Crystal Palace two days after his senior debut in April 2021. Patrick Vieira handed the winger his first-team bow in a Premier League game at Chelsea, whose academy he left for in 2019. The winger also had a loan spell at Charlton in 2022/23.

Crystal Palace forwards

Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew first signed for Crystal Palace on loan in 2018 following Swansea City’s relegation from the Premier League. He would ultimately stay at Selhurst Park permanently after the teams struck a £2.5m deal in 2019. The Ghana forward has since featured in more than 170 fixtures for the Eagles.

Jean-Philippe Mateta

Mainz initially let Jean-Philippe Mateta move to Crystal Palace on loan in January 2017. The French striker would seal a permanent move a year later for £9m but has not always been their top choice.

Odsonne Edouard

Celtic agreed to sell Odsonne Edouard to Crystal Palace in an initial £14m, rising to £18.5m, switch in 2021. The striker had entered into the last year of his contract in Glasgow after scoring 87 goals over 179 appearances. His first two seasons in south London only returned 13 goals from 68 appearances.
