Crystal Palace are well known for having an excellent academy – and we may have another gem on our hands in Owen Goodman.

The 19-year-old has received his first taste of senior football this season after completing a loan move to Colchester United back in July, and things are going very well for the teenager.

So, how is Owen Goodman getting on away from Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Essex-born glovesman is actually the highest rated goalkeeper in League Two so far this season, which is a fantastic achievement just eight games into his time at the JobServe Community Stadium.

As SofaScore shows, Goodman has registered an average rating of 7.31 in League Two so far.

The Crystal Palace loanee has recorded two clean sheets while also making 28 saves in seven League Two appearances this term, with his eighth outing coming in a defeat to Cardiff in the Carabao Cup.

Goodman has also made five runs out of his goal to prevent a shot – again according to SofaScore – while 19 of his 28 saves have impressively come from strikes faced inside the box.

The England Under-20 international would have been forgiven for having a slow start at Colchester United given his lack of experience in senior football, but he has taken to life in League Two like a duck to water.

Owen Goodman may be questioning his future at Crystal Palace

Despite his heroics on loan at League Two, Goodman might have been left questioning his future at Selhurst Park following the £20m signing of Dean Henderson.

The 26-year-old England international is four years younger than the 30-year-old Sam Johnstone, so the natural succession plan appears to be obvious.

Of course, Goodman could have a place as Henderson’s No.2 in future, although given the amount spent on the shot-stopper this summer, he will surely be handed the No.1 role once Johnstone begins to fade.

If Goodman was left feeling a bit demoralised after Henderson’s arrival, it hopefully won’t distract him from continuing his fine form at Colchester United.
