- EXCLUSIVE with Graeme Bailey
Crystal Palace are in real danger of losing Marc Guehi next year.
The £18m defender will only have 18 months remaining on his contract when the January transfer window comes around – meaning Steve Parish must decide whether to cash in at some point in 2025, or keep a depreciating asset until his value plummets.
Newcastle remain keen to sign Guehi – after failing with several bids last summer – with the Magpies preparing a new move in January.
It would be a disaster for Crystal Palace to lose the England international this winter – especially as Oliver Glasner has his side sat 19th in the Premier League.

Now – however – sources have provided We Are Palace with an update on Marc Guehi.
Why Marc Guehi is hesitant to sign a new contract at Crystal Palace
We Are Palace understand the man from Abidjan holds reservations about signing a new deal at Selhurst Park during the middle of the season – especially with Crystal Palace at risk of being relegated.
Furthermore, it is believed Guehi feels he can secure himself a move to a UEFA Champions League outfit in the summer, so he is unwilling to commit his future to Crystal Palace.

We Are Palace have also been told that discussions over a new contract have not even take place across recent weeks, with Crystal Palace themselves unprepared to spend heavily on a new contract for the 24-year-old when Championship football is a real possibility next season.
Guehi currently earns £50,000-a-week at Selhurst Park, and seems keen to keep his options open.
Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman are prepared
While it would obviously be a major blow to lose Guehi at any point, Parish and Dougie Freedman – Director of Football at Selhurst Park – have prepared Crystal Palace for this situation well.
Should the Crystal Palace No.6 depart SE25 soon, Glasner still has plenty of bodies to select a back three in his preferred 3-4-3 system, having recruited Chadi Riad and Maxence Lacroix last summer.

The duo would likely play alongside Chris Richards in the long term, unless Trevoh Chalobah signs for Crystal Palace from Chelsea on a permanent basis.
Additionally, the talented Mofe Jemide is an option in central defence too, while Jefferson Lerma and Nathaniel Clyne have impressed in that position as well – meaning Crystal Palace are well equipped to deal with the loss of Guehi.
