For Crystal Palace, Wednesday night saw yet another dominant performance against Newcastle.
Oliver Glasner has got his Eagles on fire right now, and Newcastle simply could not handle the new playing style, just as West Ham couldn’t.
The scoring was opened by Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 55th minute thanks to a Jordan Ayew assist.
Mateta grabbed his second of the evening in the 88th minute, assisted by Will Hughes. The assist was the cherry on top of an excellent outing for Hughes.

During the game fans took to social media with their views on the game, and it was Will Hughes who was a much-discussed topic.
Fans were left blown away by Hughes’ performance with one writing: “People used to tell me Will Hughes wasn’t very good.”
Another was also praising the midfielder: “Hughes like a terrier in midfield, chasing down balls for his life! Love to see it”.
“Will Hughes has been so good,” wrote a third fan. While a fourth couldn’t believe his eyes, “Will Hughes, what has Glasner done to you in training”.
A fourth jokingly wrote: “What has Glasner injected Will Hughes with?!”
Journalist Matt Woosnam also couldn’t help but praise Hughes: “Will Hughes the standout player of the half”.
Finally one explained exactly how big an impact Glasner has had on Hughes: “Different animal under Glasner. He’s been sensational”.
Will Hughes may be playing himself into a new contract at Selhurst Park
With a contract expiring this summer, Hughes is playing for his Palace career and with performances like he put in on Wednesday, he might yet get that extension he’s looking for.
It’d be hard to see Glasner be willing to let Hughes go given how vital he’s turning out to be over the past few weeks.
He seems to get better as the team gets better, and we couldn’t be happier for him. The assist was the perfect end to a game which he deserved his flowers for.
With contract talks likely now the centre of attention, we wouldn’t be shocked to see a Hughes announcement sooner than later.
