Now, however – according to the Daily Mail – there is another name under consideration in Svensson.
The Dane is currently available to be hired after leaving his role at Mainz 05 by mutual consent in November.
Svensson did a tremendous job with the German outfit, at one stage boasting a stronger points-per-game average than both Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel achieved in their respective stints at Mainz 05, as detailed on the Bundesliga’s official website.
Sadly, the 44-year-old was asked to depart in November following a run of one win in 11 games at the start of the 2023/24 season.
Nevertheless, Svensson, who The Athletic have actually compared to Klopp and Tuchel, remains a very bright coach, who caught the eye with his 3-4-2-1 formation in Germany.
Throughout his managerial career, Svensson has overseen 239 games, winning 109 while drawing 57 and losing 73.

In our view – if Parish is going to hire Svensson – it must be done as soon as possible.
The Skorping-born tactician will be up against it immediately if he comes into a new role, in a new country, with Crystal Palace aiming to claw back ground in the relegation battle.
As things stand, we sit 14th in the Premier League, and it is a case of maintaining that distance between us and the bottom three, rather than any salvation job being required.
