Crystal Palace have had an ever-increasing injury list over the last few months, now a player has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Oliver Glasner really has a tricky job on his hands with Crystal Palace in something of an injury crisis when he joined the club.

Michael Olise and Marc Guehi are two key players who are long-term absentees. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is also out along with Will Hughes and Cheick Doucoure, who has signed a new five-year contract.

Another injury is Rob Holding who only joined from Arsenal last summer for a fee of £4m, but has made just one appearance and now, it seems he won’t be adding to this anytime soon.

Here’s the latest on Holding’s injury woes…

Rob Holding is likely to miss rest of the season for Crystal Palace

Holding has already missed a substantial period and his only appearance this season came during a 3-0 defeat in the League Cup to Manchester United.

Now, The Athletic have reported that Holding is likely to miss the majority, if not all of the remaining games this season.

They reported that Holding underwent surgery on a troublesome ankle injury which proved to be more serious than expected.

This makes his acquisition look ridiculous for Palace, with the decision to sell Jake O’Brien to Lyon looking rather silly right now.

Crystal Palace made the wrong decision in defence last summer

Selling a player like O’Brien who has since thrived in Ligue 1, just to replace him with a mediocre player such as Holding was a poor call from Palace.

O’Brien has played 16 games for Lyon this season, scoring an impressive three goals which is due to his dominance aerially.

When compared with Holding, it’s confusing as to who made that decision, with Holding never being a good player so bringing him in was a somewhat poor decision already.

But selling a promising talent looks ridiculous and no doubt Dougie Freedman is packed with regret.
