The second international break of the season is here and for Crystal Palace, it offers a chance to reassess the start of the campaign so far.

Oliver Glasner has been unable to replicate the success he had at the end of the previous Premier League campaign with some struggling performances and results.

Crystal Palace are into the October international break without a win in the league, with defeat to Liverpool at Selhurst Park sending them into the two-week period in the bottom three.

The Eagles will have felt frustrated that they couldn’t manage a point against the Reds though, with some huge chances put down by Eberechi Eze.

With the break in domestic action now here, the Crystal Palace boss will have to put a plan in place to pick up points quickly to alleviate some of the pressure on him.

Alan Pardew gives verdict on Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace

Since the struggles have become more apparent at Crystal Palace, attention has turned to the manager’s position and how he can turn it around.

If there’s one man who understands what it’s like to be in the hot seat at Selhurst Park, it’s former head coach Alan Pardew.

The 63-year-old played for the Eagles between 1987 and 1991 before taking over as manager of the club in 2015, lasting just one year there.

Discussing the current position of Palace under Glasner, Pardew told TalkSPORT (October 6, 8:15pm): “Palace are in a bad spot at the moment. They have got players out of form, not quite sure, both wing-backs got injured, they are missing key players, and they look all at sea.

“They didn’t get in their faces (against Liverpool) and when they did in the last ten minutes, they almost got something from the game like Palace can do.

“But I have no fears about Crystal Palace. I think the manager knows what he is doing. I would like to see him play a bit more expansive personally, but they play a tight game and they have got the personnel to get out of the situation.”

With confidence low, it may take a first win before the side can come out and play the exciting football many got a taste of last season.

Crystal Palace face key fixture run ahead

Once Crystal Palace return to action against Nottingham Forest, Glasner has an important month ahead to get points quickly.

The November international break may well loom large in the mind of Steve Parish and the Crystal Palace ownership if wins don’t follow soon.

There are four Premier League games ahead, with Nottingham Forest on Monday Night Football offering a chance to get back to their best.

Forest have impressed themselves so far though, with Nuno Espirito Santo taking them to tenth with ten points from their opening seven games – which includes a win over Liverpool.

Beyond that is a home game against Tottenham which could offer goals galore for both teams, with Ange Postecoglou playing a style that creates opportunities at either end.

An EFL Cup clash with Aston Villa breaks up the league action, which could offer some hope of a deep run into the competition.

Villa will have an eye on Champions League and Premier League action, offering a chance for Crystal Palace to grab a place in the next round.

Wolves then follow in a clash that may be earmarked as a key one, given their struggles so far this campaign.

A London derby against Fulham then rounds out the next period of fixtures, by which Palace will be keen to have a win or two under their belts at the very least.
