Paul Merson has heaped praise on Tyrick Mitchell after Crystal Palace recorded a 1-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The 55-year-old spoke about the England international’s performance on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

Well, the Sky Sports pundit praised Joel Ward, Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi as well, describing the entire backline as “superb” at Old Trafford.
However, Merson reserved special praise for Mitchell.
Discussing the £40,000-a-week man, he said: “Mitchell. I thought it was as good as I’ve seen Mitchell play if I’m being honest. I can’t remember any of the wingers going past him.”
The 24-year-old certainly excelled himself against Erik ten Hag’s men.
Mitchell made a vital clearance in the opening 45 minutes as a shot from Rasmus Hojlund was about to roll over the line.
The Crystal Palace No.3 made another important clearance as the pressure grew midway through the second half, after Andersen somewhat sliced his own attempted clearance inside the box.
As WhoScored shows, Mitchell made three tackles, three interceptions, three clearances and three blocks in what was an outstanding show of defensive quality.
Tyrick Mitchell is now underrated at Crystal Palace
There has been a lot of expectation on Mitchell’s young shoulders across the last two seasons after he broke into the England squad.
Perhaps that call-up from Gareth Southgate came a bit too soon, as the left-back’s performances wobbled a little bit after his senior international debut against the Ivory Coast.
However, that was only for a brief period, and Mitchell is now – arguably – an underrated figure in the Premier League.
His performances so far this season have been exceptional, equalling his level from the 2021/22 campaign when Southgate sat up and took notice.
