Chris Richards has now shared what Crystal Palace players call Marc Guehi behind the scenes.
Both the United States international and the England international are currently away at major tournaments, as the Copa America and UEFA EURO 2024 are already underway.
The latter – in particular – has been the talk of the nation after two excellent performances against Serbia and Denmark, with Real Madrid No.5 Jude Bellingham piling praise on the central defender.
Now, Crystal Palace No.26 Chris Richards has shared Marc Guehi‘s nickname at Selhurst Park…
What Chris Richards said about Marc Guehi
The 23-year-old is clearly a respected figure amongst his peers at Crystal Palace.
Richards told The Athletic that he often leans on Guehi for advice, before adding that the players call him “Uncle Marc” in recognition of his maturity.
The American said: “Our lockers are right beside each other, so we chat pretty often. He’s a quiet guy, but I try to get some words out of him. He’s definitely wise beyond his years, so I pick his brain. We call him Uncle Marc.”

Whatever Guehi has been telling Richards behind the scenes, it appears to be working.
The 24-year-old has developed superbly at Crystal Palace across the past 12 months, finally nailing down a place in the starting XI under Oliver Glasner, after struggling to do so under Patrick Vieira and Roy Hodgson.
Crystal Palace No.26 could lose his fellow defender
Richards might have to strike up a similarly effective relationship with new signing Chadi Riad – as there is a chance of Guehi leaving SE25 this summer.
A story from TEAMtalk states that Manchester United are very keen to sign the man from Abidjan as a replacement for Raphael Varane, and are willing to include Aaron Wan-Bissaka as part of the deal.

There have also been rumours of Eddie Howe wanting to sign Guehi – with Newcastle No.10 Anthony Gordon already admitting that he would love to see his England teammate join him on Tyneside.
Hopefully, the £18m man stays put, although if he keeps shining with England at UEFA EURO 2024, it might become too hard to keep him in south London…
