England starts their Euro 2024 campaign on Sunday against Serbia and three Crystal Palace players are in the running to start.

In Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad, there are four Eagles players and of the four, three could potentially start against Serbia on Sunday as the Euros Group C kicks off.

Adam Wharton, Ebere Eze and Marc Guehi could all be set to play key roles for the Three Lions this summer. The fourth player who was called up though with Dean Henderson seemingly the third-choice keeper.

But as the days tick down toward the first game for England, now Conor Gallagher has shared his view on one Palace player who should be starting.

Conor Gallagher wants Marc Guehi to start for England

The team selection options for Southgate this summer are hotly debated, and several positions are up for grabs heading into the tournament.

However, talking to the media on Thursday was Gallagher and as quoted by BBC’s Alex Howell, he wants to see Guehi starting.

“I think he’ll be brilliant if he does. Top guy, top player – I couldn’t be happier if he started some games at the tournament.

“He has been brilliant for Palace and England when he has played.”

Gallagher is among Southgate’s most trusted players and for him to have this view, likely means it’s shared by the manager, and there is a strong chance that Guehi starts given injuries and dubious selection decisions.

Should Guehi start for England?

If England had a full-strength defence, it’s likely that would entail John Stones and Harry Maguire, as has been so successful in previous tournaments.

In this tournament though, the centre-half options are thin with alternatives to Guehi being Ezri Konsa, Joe Gomez and Lewis Dunk.

None of these are strong enough options to be starting for England in the Euros and therefore Guehi should absolutely be starting next to Stones.

Guehi is arguably the best centre-half in the squad currently, but disappointingly a strong tournament would likely see Guehi sold with interest arriving.
