Joachim Andersen arguably delivered his best performance yet in a Crystal Palace shirt on Saturday in the 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Denmark international – who remarkably cost just £14.9m in a deal from Lyon back in July 2021 – scored his second goal of the season to ensure all three points came back to south London.
Now – after the stunning display – Joachim Andersen has received praise from Garth Crooks…
What’s the story?
Well, the 65-year-old included both Sam Johnstone and the Dane in his Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport.
When writing about Andersen, Crooks expressed shock at his stunning strike, stating: “The goal by Andersen, I could hardly believe what I saw, and it’s the second time I have seen the Denmark international score this season while keeping a clean sheet at the same time. This was a very impressive away performance by Palace.”

That is actually incorrect.
Andersen’s only other goal this season came in the 1-1 draw against Brentford back in August, although it is still nice to see Crooks single our No.16 out for praise.
Joachim Andersen is an early contender for Player of the Season at Crystal Palace
All eyes were on Ebere Eze this season after his incredible end to the 2022/23 campaign.
While the England international has impressed, it is Andersen who is arguably leading the race for Crystal Palace’s Player of the Season.

The 27-year-old has gone up a level this term, taking games by the scruff of the neck in an attacking sense as we saw away to Brentford, where he practically forced an equaliser singlehandedly with a strong run.
Andersen has also been as solid as ever alongside Marc Guehi at the back, and in today’s market, it isn’t outrageous to say that we have an £80m defender on our hands – at least.
