Crystal Palace have now agreed a deal to sign Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer, after the Spaniard saw his contract with Celta Vigo expire.

The 27-year-old represents something of a coup for the Eagles, considering he can operate in seven different positions, boasts vast experience of European football and is also a Spain international.

Given how versatile Mingueza is, many Crystal Palace fans have been left wondering where Pierre Sage will deploy him, although Sky Sports can now clear that up.

🚨 NEW SIGNING ALERT 🚨

What do Palace need to do next after landing a new defender in Mingueza? 🇪🇸

Crystal Palace see Oscar Mingueza as a challenger for Daniel Munoz

Sky Sports believe the UEFA Conference League winners view Mingueza as a right-sided full-back, meaning he will arrive at Selhurst Park as competition for Daniel Munoz.

The Colombia international has that position firmly nailed down, but after the departure of Nathaniel Clyne, the South American does need a new deputy on the right of defence.

Tyrick Mitchell is supported by Borna Sosa, while Sage has four options for three slots in the centre of defence in Chelsea target Maxence Lacroix, Jaydee Canvot, Chris Richards and Chadi Riad – not to mention Jefferson Lerma who can also play there.

So, the decision to sign Mingueza as a right-sided full-back makes perfect sense.

The former Barcelona star can even play higher up the flanks as a winger on either side if need be, while he has experience of playing in central midfield too.

Effectively, the man born in Santa Perpetua de Mogoda is just a solid all-round footballer wherever he plays, which is a fantastic option for Sage to have in his squad.

Mingueza has also been involved in 11 games for Spain alongside Yeremy Pino, so his arrival in SE25 may help the Crystal Palace No.10 feel more comfortable at Selhurst Park going forward.
