Crystal Palace are now in talks to hire Steve Cooper as Roy Hodgson finds himself on the brink of receiving his P45.

That is according to Football Insider.

So, what is the latest on Steve Cooper for Crystal Palace fans to digest? Let’s take a look…

Well, the 44-year-old is also a target for Birmingham City as Wayne Rooney struggles.

That may have sparked Steve Parish into action, as Football Insider are now claiming that negotiations with Cooper have started.

It is said that the Welshman was actually offered the job before Hodgson eventually signed a 12-month deal back in July.

Football Insider do not state what happened, although we presume Cooper opted to stay and make things work at Nottingham Forest, where he was – and still is – idolised by supporters at the City Ground.

The Daily Mail believe Cooper is not currently engaged in a period of gardening leave after being sacked by Nottingham Forest, so Parish would not have to pay any compensation to hire the man with 12 Premier League wins to his name.

Julen Lopetegui has also been approached

Football Insider add that Julen Lopetegui has also been sounded out about replacing Hodgson.

The Spaniard has been seen at Selhurst Park earlier this season, and – like Cooper – is also unemployed after leaving Wolves back in August.

That aforementioned story by the Daily Mail claimed that Cooper is considering a short break from football – having only recently been sacked by Nottingham Forest – so if that turns out to be true, Lopetegui could be the man for Parish.

The 57-year-old boasts an impressive CV having previously managed Real Madrid and Spain.

Football Insider do – however – state that Cooper is the No.1 choice.

Be sure to keep an eye on this developing situation, as anything could happen.
