Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Crystal Palace now want to sign Kelechi Iheanacho as a replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta.
That is according to the Evening Standard.
So, what is the situation involving Crystal Palace and Kelechi Iheanacho? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, it is said that Roy Hodgson has made the Nigeria international one of his top targets as we approach the end of the summer transfer window.
The Evening Standard believe Leicester would ideally like to keep Iheanacho – who the Foxes feel can help them secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
However, Leicester are hamstrung by the fact the 26-year-old only has 12 months remaining on his contract, so Crystal Palace feel a deal can be done.
Having said that, it all depends on Mateta.
Crystal Palace will only make a move for Iheanacho if Dougie Freedman can offload the Frenchman, although there is concrete interest in the 26-year-old.
RB Leipzig have already seen a £7m bid rejected for Mateta, who is also wanted by Borussia Dortmund.
Kelechi Iheanacho would be a great signing by Crystal Palace
In our view, Iheanacho would be ideal for us.
Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal showed just how badly we need attacking reinforcements, and the Leicester No.14 is talented enough to knit everything together up top with his creativity, while also threatening the goal himself.
Despite a solid backline and a very competent midfield, Hodgson is being let down by a relatively toothless frontline in the absence of Michael Olise and Matheus Franca.
However, Iheanacho would change that – after all, there’s a reason Leicester spent £25m to sign him from Manchester City back in August 2017.
At that time, Steve Parish and Frank de Boer were also interested in bringing the Nigerian to Selhurst Park – according to the Mirror – so there is clearly a longstanding admiration from our side.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we could finally get our hands on Iheanacho this summer – six years on from our initial interest.
