Gary Lineker gives Crystal Palace verdict

Former England star striker Gary Lineker has been full of praise for Crystal Palace following their 1-0 win over Liverpool. The Eagles stunned the Reds as Eberechi Eze finished off a swift piece of passing play at Anfield.

While the home side had plenty of opportunities, they were unable to break down a stubborn Palace defence. The victory has added another three points to the board and keeps the relegation zone at arm’s length.

Lineker was full of praise on social media, taking to the platform X to say: “Wow! What a performance from CPFC. Incredible all over the pitch.”

Crystal Palace star likened to Lionel Messi

Former Premier League star Paul Merson has likened the style of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise to Lionel Messi. It comes as the youngster made his return to the starting line-up against Liverpool, coming as a huge boost to the side.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Redknapp talked about the danger of Olise’s left foot, with Merson adding: “Well you can’t stop Messi getting on his left [foot], can you? It’s his body movement, Jamie, he’s so in control of the ball.

“You know, even with the goal there against Luton, he’s running 100-miles-an-hour, but he’s always got control of the ball. He’s not running with his head down, he knows what he’s going to do.

“He probably knows what he’s going to do when he gets that ball near the halfway line. He’s going to go down the wing, cut in and bend it in the corner. He’s a top player.”

Shay Given praises Joachim Andersen

Ex-Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given has heaped praise on Joachim Andersen for his role in Crystal Palace’s win over Liverpool. The defender was the only recognised centre-back in the backline, adding an extra layer of difficulty to the tie.

However, Andersen stood up to the test and helped guide the team towards a huge win. Discussing the game on BBC Match of the Day, Given said: “This is your leader, your captain, he was brilliant. Andersen is your captain and your leader, organising in front of him.

“He was picking up really good positions in the goal and again, when you’ve got someone at the back, talking, demanding, moving people around, absolutely fantastic.”
