Former PL title-winning defender shares one area where 'brilliant' Crystal Palace defender needs improvement

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

One pundit has spoken about Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and they believe he has to improve his game in one department.

Pundit Martin Keown was writing for the MailOnline.

So, what did he have to say about Marc Guehi? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

The Crystal Palace centre-back was recently called up to the England squad for their upcoming European Championship Qualifying matches.

Writing about Guehi and exciting English defenders for the MailOnline, Keown said: “Guehi, 23, is quick, mobile and decent in possession but needs to be more dominant in the air.”

Guehi has already made four appearances for England and has become a fan-favourite at Palace since he joined in 2021.

The 23 year-old’s performances have been so impressive that he has even been given the captain’s armband on various occasions.

Keown believes Guehi needs to be more dominant in the air

Guehi has been ‘brilliant‘ since joining Crystal Palace and he has been a big reason for the club having a very good start to the season.

The Englishman alongside Joachim Andersen seems to be a great partnership both defensively and also in terms of keeping possession.

Last season, Guehi won 56% of his aerial duels in the Premier League. Arguably, for a centre-back, you do want it a little bit higher so you can somewhat see Keown’s point.

The pundit, who has won the Premier League back when he was playing with Arsenal, no doubt praised Guehi for his skill in possession.

So far this season, Guehi has won 57% of his aerial duels, so there has been this minor improvement which is good to see.

With the campaign only just starting, and Guehi’s successful aerial duel in the build-up to one of Palace’s goals against Wolves last weekend being crucial, it does look like the defender is improving in that department.

No doubt he has a world-class ceiling and it looks like he will manage to reach the top very soon.
