Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi received high praise from England manager Gareth Southgate, who gave multiple reasons as to why he is in contention for the 2024 European Championships squad.
The manager was speaking in his press conference ahead of England playing Italy.
So, what praise did Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi receive from England manager Gareth Southgate? Let’s take a look
What’s the story?
Guehi has now become a consistent England player and in the last international break he started both matches.
Speaking about the defender, via The Metro, Southgate said: “Marc is doing really, really well. He’s played with great maturity in the two games last month.
“At times he might not catch the eye in the way that some other players do because he’s in the right place, so he’s not having to turn round and cover for something that he’s got wrong.
“He’s a very calm player, positionally excellent. Composed with the ball, very good mentality, so we think he’s developing very well.”

England manager Gareth Southgate praises Crystal Palace No.6 Marc Guehi
Ever since joining Palace from fellow Premier League side Chelsea in the summer of 2021, Guehi has been a star player.
Despite only being 23-year-old, the centre-back has already captained the Eagles. He is a top defender and he no doubt has the quality to play at the highest level.
It is no shock to see him consistently in the England squad now that he has asserted himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.
Palace fans will no doubt be worrying about losing him next summer as he continues to become more noticed by other clubs in the division.

With the England manager listing off four reasons as to why he is at a level to be in the England squad, it feels like there isn’t much that Guehi can’t do on the football pitch.
If he continues performing like he has been then there is no doubting that he will be involved in the 2024 European Championships next summer.
