Crystal Palace are ready to kick-start the 2024/25 season, but pundits have little faith in the Eagles.
The 2024/25 season promises to be exciting for Crystal Palace, with another top-half finish under Oliver Glasner being targeted.
It has been a busy summer transfer window for the Eagles, and there is likely still going to be some movement between now and the end of August.
But in terms of predicting where Palace could finish, fans are confident the Eagles can push on from 10th.
Paul Merson on the other hand is less confident, warning supporters of the dangers of relegation. Now he has been joined by three other pundits.
Where Lineker, Shearer and Richards have predicted Palace to finish
With Palace’s Premier League campaign kicking off on Sunday Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards all issued their predictions for the season and where Palace will finish.
Lineker kicked things off, speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast but was not too hopeful of the Eagles replicating last season’s form.
“I think… I don’t think they’ll finish quite as high as last season, I suspect because one or two players will go. So I’m going to get them struggling a little bit but avoiding relegation.”
Shearer then added his own prediction, completely in agreement with his co-host.
“Ditto. I think the same, I think last season where they finished in and around mid-table, I don’t see them doing that again. I think they’ll be three or four spots below that. So I’m going to be the same as you Gaz.”
Finally, it was Micah Richards’ turn to make his prediction and he also predicted the Eagles to struggle.
“I think they could struggle, depending on what happens with [Ebere] Eze, but they could struggle big time. I’m saying just avoid relegation for Crystal Palace.”
Crystal Palace can get off to a quick start vs Brentford
For Palace, there are a lot of question marks despite how confident we are that Glasner will be a success.
Transfer dealings in the final few weeks of the window will play a big role in whether the Eagles live up to expectations or not.
But that for now is uncontrollable and all Glasner can do is lay down a statement in game one and give his side the boost of confidence that last season was not a fluke.
The Eagles had Brentford’s number last campaign, with a draw and then a 3-1 win at Selhurst Park, so confidence in a result should be high.
This could then see Palace begin to prove these pundits wrong.
