Antoine Semenyo is currently shining in the Premier League with Bournemouth – although the forward could have been starring for Crystal Palace instead.
The 24-year-old made an interesting revelation when speaking to Sky Sports.
So, what is the situation between Antoine Semenyo and Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…
Antoine Semenyo was rejected by Crystal Palace
Well, Crystal Palace actually tried to sign the Ghana international before he left Bristol City for Bournemouth in a £10.5m deal back in January 2023 – according to Sky Sports.
Semenyo’s decision to reject the Eagles may have given him a sense of revenge, as the Bournemouth No.24 claims Crystal Palace hit him “hard” at the age of 15 and actually caused him to give up football in 2015.
The Chelsea-born forward said: “Palace hit me hard the most because I was there for so long. My trial got extended and I thought I was going to be signed – and it didn’t happen.

“I remember getting into the car crying and saying to my dad, why does this keep happening? I stopped playing football for a year after that. I didn’t play any sport, I put on a lot of weight. I didn’t think I’d be here, but God works in mysterious ways.”
Crystal Palace tried to reverse Antoine Semenyo mistake
Semenyo added that Crystal Palace “came back” just before he signed for Bristol City in 2017 – so perhaps there was a strong sense of regret at Selhurst Park.

The Londoner is now a Premier League star with five goals and two assists in 22 appearances this season, while he also represents Ghana alongside Jordan Ayew.
The fact Crystal Palace made two attempts to sign Semenyo after initially rejecting him suggests those within Selhurst Park know a mistake was made – although it seems as if the attacker was left too devastated to ever consider giving the Eagles a second chance.
