Andros Townsend has been speaking about Crystal Palace as Luton prepare to welcome the Eagles to Kenilworth Road on Saturday.
The 32-year-old made the comments when speaking to Luton’s official website.

What’s the story?
Well, the England international actually thinks Luton will find it harder to face Crystal Palace on Saturday than they did up against Liverpool and Manchester United before the international break, in what was a very interesting comment.
Townsend said: “Looking forward to it very much. Obviously, it is always nice when you go against an old club, especially Palace. I spent the vast majority of my career there, five great years.
“I think everyone knows what to expect from a Roy Hodgson side. They are going to be well drilled, they are going to be tough to break down, and now they have got immense quality going forward… it’s going to be a different proposition to the Liverpools and the Man Uniteds of this world, probably – in my opinion – even tougher than those games.”
Quite the compliment from Townsend – to say the least.
On our day, we can beat anybody, although it is still interesting to hear that the Luton No.30 thinks we’ll pose a larger threat to his new team than Jürgen Klopp and Erik ten Hag’s respective sides did.
How Andros Townsend has fared since leaving Crystal Palace
It has been sad to see how things have worked out for Townsend since he left Crystal Palace in 2021.
The man from Leytonstone seemed to have found a new home at Everton, scoring three goals in his first seven appearances for the Toffees.
However, Townsend then suffered a serious knee injury – which actually came against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Quarter Final – and never played for Everton again.
After that, the Tottenham academy graduate thought he had found another Premier League opportunity at Burnley, only for the Clarets to withdraw their contract offer – a decision which Townsend said left him in tears.
Fortunately, the man who made 185 appearances for Crystal Palace – far more than he has managed for any other side throughout his career – is now settled at Luton.
Hopefully, Townsend enjoys himself with the Hatters – just not on Saturday!
