Oliver Glasner in advanced talks over job which may see Austrian return to Selhurst Park

Oliver Glasner is already close to accepting a new job, just two weeks after guiding Crystal Palace to UEFA Conference League glory.

The Times believe the Austrian is currently in advanced talks with AC Milan as the Italian giants aim to move on from Massimiliano Allegri, who led them to a disappointing finish of fifth in Serie A last season.

It means AC Milan will be partaking in the UEFA Europa League instead of the UEFA Champions League – raising the prospect of an emotional return to Selhurst Park for Glasner.

Initial thoughts on Pierre Sage? 🤔

He can boast a 67.5% win ratio from 40 games at RC Lens 😍

Oliver Glasner could return to Selhurst Park next season

Whether it be in the ‘league phase’ of the UEFA Europa League or a meeting in the latter stages of the competition, Glasner moving to the San Siro makes the prospect of a return to SE25 next season a real possibility.

Not only that, but Jean-Philippe Mateta could follow.

Calciomercato believe Glasner has asked AC Milan to bring the France international to the San Siro this summer, a deal which feels likely considering Crystal Palace agreed to sell the striker to the Italian giants in the winter transfer window, only for him to fail a medical.

With just over 12 months remaining on his contract and no sign of an extension being agreed, Mateta is highly likely to leave Crystal Palace – despite redeeming himself to the fanbase with the goal which secured European glory.

The knee issue which initially put AC Milan off no longer appears to be a problem either, considering the Crystal Palace No.14 made 16 appearances after failing his medical, scoring six goals in those games.

Who is your DREAM signing? ⭐️

So, Crystal Palace fans may not only see Mateta back at Selhurst Park wearing the colours of AC Milan next season, but he could also be managed by Glasner himself, in what would be a quirky turn of events.
