Oliver Glasner has discussed his new role as Crystal Palace manager, following the decision from Roy Hodgson to step down.
The Eagles announced the departure of their former coach before their trip to Everton, following a difficult period. Rumours had pursued over the future of Hodgson at Selhurst Park, with concerns over potential relegation and the plan beyond the season.
The 76-year-old then fell ill during training in midweek, which would see him hospitalised and in need of care. It was then confirmed that the Hodgson would be stepping down from his role, with 200 games managed for Crystal Palace over two stints.
In his place comes Glasner, an Austrian coach who has a record of eyeing European football in his career. The new boss had recently plied his trade with Eintracht Frankfurt, winning the Europa League, with prior jobs also at VFL Wolfsburg and LASK.

In a statement published by the Crystal Palace club website, Glasner spoke of his excitement in taking up the new role. “I am very happy to join Crystal Palace F.C. as manager,” he claimed.
“I am looking forward to working with the talented squad, meeting the club’s supporters and experiencing the Selhurst Park atmosphere I have heard so much about. It has been a pleasure to meet with Steve and Dougie, and I am looking forward to working with them to achieve our goals.”

Chairman Steve Parish also discussed some of the thoughts behind the appointment, with a view to beyond the end of the campaign: “I’m delighted to welcome Oliver to the club. He has an outstanding record, and we believe he is the right manager to take the club forward at this pivotal stage.
“Wherever Oliver has gone so far in his managerial journey, success has been quick to follow, and we believe his ambition, as well as his exciting and attacking approach, is the perfect fit for getting the most from our talented young squad in the remainder of this Premier League season and beyond.”

Oliver Glasner is a manager that has an impressive record when it comes to earning European football with his clubs. The Austrian coach often makes use of a back-five formation, with emphasis on wing-backs to provide width and intelligent pressing.
The 49-year-old managed to win the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt, while he also impressed with LASK and VFL Wolfsburg.
