Paddy McCarthy probably knows this current Crystal Palace group better than anyone, and now he’s been heard praising three players.

The assistant manager under both Roy Hodgson and now Oliver Glasner, who was quick to step into the caretaker role, coaching the side to a 1-1 draw with Everton, Paddy McCarthy is embedded at Crystal Palace.

Now working under Glasner he seems to have adapted well to working under the Austrian as it could be massive for his career.

This week though, he’s in Marbella with the Palace squad as they take part in a mid-season training camp.

During one session, the Irishman has been heard handing out praise to three players. Here’s who they were…

Paddy McCarthy heard praising Crystal Palace trio

Crystal Palace has published footage of a training session in Marbella amid the warm weather break on the club’s official website.

At one point, McCarthy could be heard shouting praise to both Franco Umeh and Jefferson Lerma during a training game.

He shouted: “That’s it Franco!” followed by “Good Jefferson!”

He wasn’t finished here though, as he also loved watching Joel Ward set up Jean-Philippe Mateta for a delightful goal.

After this excellent pass, he shouted “Yes Wardy”, toward the Eagles captain.

Franco Umeh will be hoping to feature against Bodo/Glimt

While on this break, Palace aren’t just training with a game also on the cards against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.

This game offers Umeh the perfect chance to get some senior minutes and show Glasner what he can do.

If he impresses, he could find himself replacing Jordan Ayew in the starting line-up before the season ends.

With such an excellent U21 season thus far, the next step is senior football, so he should get his chance.
