Player has now scored seven goals in just 11 appearances since Crystal Palace failed with summer bid

Crystal Palace tried to sign Jack Clarke from Sunderland back in May after submitting an official bid.

It was Fabrizio Romano who claimed that the Eagles made an offer – along with Burnley and Brentford.

A deal between Crystal Palace and Jack Clarke unfortunately never materialised, and the Sunderland No.20 has surely added millions to his price tag now…

What’s the story?

Well, the 22-year-old has started the 2023/24 campaign on fire.

Clarke has already scored seven goals in just 11 Championship appearances this season.

The York-born winger scored six of those goals in just five outings during September, which has now seen him named Championship Player of the Month for September.

Remarkably, Clarke is already just two goals away from matching his tally of nine in 45 Championship appearances last term, so his excellent progress is there for all to see.

With Roy Hodgson’s side currently lacking a number of attacking options due to injuries, the 76-year-old could definitely do with a player like the Sunderland No.20 right now.

Interestingly, Clarke has not registered a single assist yet this season, despite recording 14 in all competitions last term, which suggests he has now become more selfish and direct.

Crystal Palace may regret missing out on Jack Clarke

In our view, Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman might regret failing to wrap up a deal for Clarke over the summer – his price tag looks set to skyrocket now.

As aforesaid, the England Under-20 international is just two goals away from his total across the entirety of last season, progress which is sure to make other clubs sit up and take notice.

Therefore, not only will Crystal Palace potentially face a larger asking price for Clarke now, but the competition for his signature might have increased beyond just Burnley and Brentford.

Hopefully – if Clarke keeps this form up – Freedman will attempt to resurrect talks in January.
