Over the past few days, Sam Johnstone was named in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad and now Remi Matthews has sent a message.

Crystal Palace have spent the last week in Marbella, on a warm-weather training camp which has seen multiple players emerge with their stocks higher than before.

Naouirou Ahamada is one name who’s impressed, doing well in the friendly game against Bodo/Glimt.

Off the field, there’s one player who’s also seen his stock rise, as he’s received his latest international call-up into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Sam Johnstone called up to the England squad

In the latest England squad, there was one Palace man named for a call-up and it was Sam Johnstone.

The 30-year-old will be looking to build on his four England caps to date against either Brazil or Belgium over the international break.

Johnstone will have been surprised to not see his teammate Eberechi Eze on the list, with the magician being so impressive since returning from injury.

After the announcement of his call-up, Johnstone’s teammate Remi Matthews has reacted with a message.

With Johnstone getting the call-up, he got a message of congratulations from his fellow Palace goalkeeper Matthews.

He posted an Instagram story on which he wrote “Congrats on another call-up truck head”, followed by a heart and also a tennis ball emoji.

Seeing the camaraderie between the goalkeepers is encouraging to see, and we hope to see Johnstone getting a chance in the White of England next week.
