Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Crystal Palace are on the hunt for a new manager and a report suggests that Roy Hodgson is the leading candidate for the role.
That is according to The Athletic.
So, what is the latest update around Hodgson possibly become manager at Palace? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
According to journalist for The Athletic Matt Woosnam, Hodgson, who took control of the club on an interim manager basis in March, is in ‘pole position’ to continue as manager.
The squad looked like they couldn’t get a win under Vieira in 2023, but Roy Hodgson came in and turned the tide. He made Crystal Palace a free-scoring side who won five of their last 10 matches. In the end, he helped them finish eleventh in the division.
Crystal Palace are showing no long-term planning if they appoint Hodgson
Although there were some complaints when Palace brought Hodgson back on an interim basis, it worked perfectly. Despite this success, appointing Roy for a full season doesn’t seem like the best idea.
Hodgson, who chairman Steve Parish called ‘magnificent‘, had a good spell in his last tenure at the club, but a lot of us started to wanted him gone when the football got worse and the results got worse as well.
To hire him now would feel like there is no long-term plan at the club. He would most likely only have a contract lasting one or two years and it feels like it would be a step backwards for the club.
After wanting to go in a new direction after his first tenure, to end up back with him, despite his qualities as a coach, could restrict Palace.
Hodgson will be able to provide us with 40 points, but he won’t be able to do much more. After a decade in the division, it would be nice for the club to show some ambition this summer.
