On Tuesday, Gareth Southgate named four Crystal Palace players in his England squad for the Euros, now Steve Parish has reacted.
Crystal Palace have four players named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for the Euros this summer, with no club having more.
It’s a testament to the upward trajectory that Oliver Glasner has had the Eagles on, and lately that so many were chosen.
There are even more Palace players who could’ve and maybe should’ve been included which says it all about the club right now.
After the announcement was made though, there was plenty of reaction and Steve Parish was among those to react.
How Steve Parish has reacted to players getting England call
In Southgate’s squad, Dean Henderson, Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton and finally Eberechi Eze all got the call.
After the squad was unveiled, Parish was speaking on Sky Sports News about how pleased he was to see four of his players called up.
“Brilliant. It’s amazing for the club but more importantly amazing for the boys.
“Four smashing, smashing lads who’ve all brought something different to the club and it’s great for us but it’s even better for them.
“I’m so proud and I hope they make the cut to the next level and we see them play in the Euros [it’d] be amazing.”
Parish is absolutely spot on as well, with the call-ups being a great success for Palace as four players is a number which is normally reserved for the big six clubs.
Parish praises the end to Palace’s season
Parish wasn’t finished there as he also had praise for the run of form which saw Palace finish 10th and unbeaten in the last seven to conclude the campaign.
“Yeah an incredible end and obviously we matched our best points tally, best position, obviously a little bit of a tinge on what might’ve been if we’d had all our best players throughout the season.
“But Oliver [Glasner] has done an outstanding job, he’s got to take some credit as well for the boys being picked because obviously if you’re playing well it brings people to attention.
“Obviously bringing Adam [Wharton] in in January was a real pivotal moment and Daniel [Munoz] on the right, so it’s been a great few weeks for the club culminating in the call-ups which is special.”
What chance does each Palace player have of making the final cut?
Despite being in the provisional squad for the Euros, none of the four are guaranteed to be heading to Germany just yet.
First up, Henderson actually stands the best chance of heading to Germany, as there will likely be three goalkeepers heading and he should absolutely be ahead of the relegated James Trafford.
Guehi would be next and when looking at the centre-backs in the squad, he should be safe with Lewis Dunk, Jarell Quansah and Ezri Konsa likely behind him in the pecking order.
Wharton must be chosen, with England lacking proper midfielders and only six actually in the provisional squad.
Finally, Eze probably has the least chance of the lot given the sheer number of options available to Southgate. That being said, he should be chosen ahead of a couple, with Paul Merson saying he’d prefer Eze to Maddison.
