The chances of in-demand Crystal Palace star leaving in January window now rated

Crystal Palace are not keen on the possibility of losing goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in the January transfer window, according to reports.

Roy Hodgson decided to bring in former Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson but the Englishman has struggled hugely with injury problems.

As a result of this, Sam Johnstone has remained the first choice in between the sticks for Hodgson but with Henderson now returning from the injury problem he sustained when playing against his former side in the Carabao Cup, the Palace boss has a decision to make.

Having two good goalkeepers fighting for one spot can be a negative thing but it is working at this moment in time for Hodgson.

Johnstone’s future

Despite Henderson returning to the team after his injury, as well as the amount of money they spent on the goalkeeper, Johnstone will not be allowed to leave the club in January.

That’s according to Dean Jones talking to GiveMeSport who claims that he would be surprised if the Eagles decided to let the former West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper leave the club.

Due to the amount of positions that could potentially need strengthening in the winter window, adding in a new goalkeeper into the mix may well be a bad idea for the London side.

“I just can’t see Roy Hodgson letting Sam Johnstone go. I know that they’ve got other good goalkeeping options at Palace but they’ve got so many issues to deal with at the moment selling their goalkeeper is just something they’re not going to be open to at all,” Jones said.

Palace’s priorities

Goalkeeper is certainly not one of the club’s priorities in the winter window but a new number nine looks to be high on the list of targets for Hodgson and Palace.

Hugo Ekitike has been one man who has been heavily linked with a move to Palace, this is due to the Frenchman’s lack of game time at Paris Saint Germain.

Nevertheless, a goalkeeper does not look to be one of the priorities at this moment in time for the Eagles.
