Former West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino has spoken out about Alan Pardew and how he put him off a move to Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace were linked with a move for the striker back in 2016, with the Eagles prepared to pay £20 million for Berahino.
Tottenham Hotspur, Stoke City and Newcastle United were all also interested in Berahino who was pushing to leave The Hawthorns.
The then 22-year-old spoke to former Palace boss Pardew, admitting he was responsible for putting him off a move, before joining Stoke City shortly after.
Berahino on speaking to Pardew
Speaking on the On The Judy Podcast, Berahino admitted that he held conversations with the former Palace boss before deciding to join Stoke.
“I really wanted to go to Tottenham, but I also spoke to Palace and Alan Pardew.
“I just didn’t get a nice vibe from him. We met up and we spoke but I don’t want to bad mouth him on camera.
“We spoke and I just said to myself ‘Nah I can’t go to London’ because my Mum was completely against it too.”
Palace dodged a bullet
They do say that hindsight is a wonderful thing and with how Berahino struggled during his time at the Bet365 Stadium, it is a good job he rejected a move to Selhurst Park.
After his £20 million move, he played 51 times for the Potters, scoring just three times including a stint of two years without a goal.
It may have seemed like a huge blow at the time, but looking back Palace dodged a bullet in Berahino.
