Oliver Glasner has now arrived at Crystal Palace after Roy Hodgson resigned from his role at Selhurst Park for medical reasons.

The Austrian was in attendance at Goodison Park – sat alongside Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman – on Monday as a phenomenal strike from Jordan Ayew earned a point against Everton.

As Oliver Glasner prepares Crystal Palace for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Burnley, some details about his interview have emerged…

What Oliver Glasner did in his Crystal Palace interview

Well – according to The Athletic – the man from Salzburg left a strong impression on Crystal Palace during his interview.

It is said that Glasner specifically impressed by suggesting specific lineups which could help Crystal Palace cope without key players such as Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, going into vast detail on how the Eagles could improve using his coaching methods.

Now, that is extremely refreshing to hear.

It sounds as if Glasner was very keen to impress Parish, rather than it being a case of the Crystal Palace Chairman having to charm the 49-year-old and convince him to replace Hodgson, which certainly bodes well for us.

The future looks bright

There were glimpses of how Crystal Palace could look under Glasner in Monday’s 1-1 draw against Everton.

Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington implemented a 3-4-3 system with Joel Ward, Joachim Andersen and Chris Richards in the centre of defence, while Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz pushed on as wing-backs.

Adam Wharton and Jefferson Lerma sat in a midfield pivot, as Jordan Ayew, Odsonne Edouard and Jean-Phillipe-Mateta were named in attack.

The system appeared to work nicely until Crystal Palace simply ran out of steam after going 1-0 up, so when the likes of Eze, Olise, Marc Guehi and Cheick Doucoure are reintroduced to the side, and Glasner has some time to implement his ideas, the Eagles could become a real force.

Interestingly, the 49-year-old already seems keen to instil an attacking mindset, having been spotted gesturing to go forwards during Monday’s draw on Merseyside.
