Oliver Glasner revealed that he first told Steve Parish he would be leaving Crystal Palace back in October.
The Austrian made his mind up early, giving the Eagles plenty of time to prepare for life without the man who won Crystal Palace a first major trophy last season through the FA Cup.
However, despite this, we seem no closer to finding a replacement for Oliver Glasner.
Andoni Iraola is not expected to join us when the Spaniard departs Bournemouth at the end of the season, while Sky Sports say the shortlist currently has as many as six names on it.
Who do YOU want as the next Crystal Palace boss? 🤔
James Savundra of Sky Sports has now explained why there is no “rush” to hire a new manager at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace waiting to see if UEFA Europa League qualification happens
The respected journalist now states that Crystal Palace are in no hurry to finalise an appointment, as there is a belief that qualifying for the UEFA Europa League could unlock “access” to a “higher calibre” of manager.
It is a bit worrying that the managerial search is taking so long and no clear frontrunner has emerged, although if biding our time does lead to a better appointment, we suppose that is a fair approach from the decision makers at Selhurst Park.
The only danger is that Crystal Palace fail to win the UEFA Conference League and miss out on a spot in the UEFA Europa League, in which case Parish would be left with egg on his face.
Interestingly, the aforementioned Savundra adds that Inigo Perez – manager of potential UEFA Conference League finalists Rayo Vallecano – is admired, but is not deemed experienced enough for the role at the age of 38. This suggests Parish is mainly looking for older managers.

Marcelino is another option – the Independent say Crystal Palace have been in touch – and the Spaniard has already decided to leave Villarreal at the end of the season.
At this point, we can only keep an eye on the situation until a clear frontrunner emerges.
