Crystal Palace fell behind once more from a winning position this season, drawing 1-1 against Luton Town on Saturday to deny Oliver Glasner his second win in charge.
Oliver Glasner looked as though he would secure his second victory in charge of Crystal Palace on Saturday however, Cauley Woodrow had other thoughts.
Luton Town pounced on the chance to equalise in the dying embers to earn a much-needed point in their plea to avoid relegation, a result that left the Hatters overjoyed and Palace jaded.
The Eagles set an unwanted club record after drawing against Luton, dropping 18 points this season from winning positions, the most in their history of playing in the Premier League.
While Glasner is only three games into his tenure at Palace, the Austrian has an alarming amount of work to do, with not many issues as severe as the Eagles’ inability to see games out.
The statistics that show just how bad Crystal Palace are at holding leads
The manager was aware of the job he had taken on when replacing Roy Hodgson last month, as Palace have struggled to build form all season.
In the dream scenario that the Eagles hadn’t dropped the 18 points that they had lost from winning positions, Hodgson would probably still be in charge with Palace sitting level with Manchester United in 6th.
Unfortunately, the South Londoner’s issue with dropping points from advantageous positions sees them sat down in 14th and only eight points above the drop zone.
Palace have struggled throughout the campaign to hold onto a lead, as highlighted by their late mishaps with no team conceding more goals on or after the 90th minute than the Eagles with 10.
As documented by The Athletic, with journalist Matt Woosnam dubbing the situation a ‘serious concern’ for Glasner to address, of the 87 goals that have been scored after the 90th minute this season, a staggering 11.5% have been netted against Palace.

It was only the week before last that Glasner was quizzed about the issue of conceding late, as the Eagles lost 3-1 to Spurs after holding onto a 1-0 lead up until the 75th minute of play.
Speaking after the fixture, the Austrian relieved fans by saying that his side had “started to work on” holding onto results, only for Palace to concede in the 96th minute of the match that followed.
With 10 games left to play in the 2023/24 Premier League season, there is plenty of time for Glasner to get his team stronger in such areas however, there is also time for things to deteriorate further.
Now that the Eagles aren’t in action until after the international break, it will be hoped that the squad will begin to learn their lessons ahead of the trip to Nottingham Forest.
