Andy Johnson 2.0: Crystal Palace must sign ideal strike partner for Christian Benteke - Our View

SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP

If the transfer window ended right now, few Crystal Palace fans could complain about the business Dougie Freedman has done.

However, there is one signing that he simply must wrap up before the transfer window ends for real – Adam Armstrong.

How likely is the deal?

Well, according to Sky Sports, we’re in advanced talks with Blackburn to sign the 24-year-old, who scored 29 goals last season.

The Eagles have had a bid rejected, although negotiations are said to be continuing between the two sides.

Southampton are also keen.

In our view, if we can pull this deal off, it could mark the beginning of a lethal strike partnership at Selhurst Park.

Adam Armstrong and Christian Benteke could cause havoc

One player Armstrong reminds us of is Andy Johnson.

The Crystal Palace legend was an expert inside the penalty area, where his exquisite movement and lethal finishing made him a hero in SE25.

Armstrong is of a similar build, and his 29-goal haul last term suggests he knows where the back of the net is, just like Johnson did.

Some might argue that he’s too small at 5ft 7in.

However, with Christian Benteke up alongside him, magic could happen.

The colossal Belgian would win the aerial duels, flicking the ball into Armstrong who will – presumably – already be on his toes to run in behind.

Whether that’s the plan in Vieira’s mind or not remains to be seen, although it’s certainly a mouthwatering prospect to think about.
