Pierre Sage may be set for awkward RC Lens meeting as Crystal Palace make announcement

The situation involving Pierre Sage and Crystal Palace has gone fairly quiet in recent days.

The Times claimed on Wednesday that the Frenchman was poised to leave RC Lens after an interview with Crystal Palace. With a lack of reports to follow up, we can only assume discussions are taking place over a compensation fee, considering the 47-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract.

Should the appointment be finalised before the 28th July, Sage may actually end up facing RC Lens in his very first game as manager of Crystal Palace after the Eagles announced they will be participating in the Como Cup.

Initial thoughts on Pierre Sage? 🤔

He can boast a 67.5% win ratio from 40 games at RC Lens 😍

Pierre Sage to potentially face RC Lens in Como as Crystal Palace announce pre-season plans

The UEFA Conference League winners revealed on Friday that they will travel to Lake Como at the end of July to take part in the Como Cup. The tournament begins on Tuesday 28th July and ends on Saturday 1st August.

AlUla SC, Como 1907, FC Famalicão, RC Lens and Yeremy Pino’s former side Villarreal will be joining Crystal Palace in the Como Cup.

The Eagles are set to play two games lasting 45 minutes each, along with a guaranteed 90-minute match which will either be the final or a game to see who finishes third.

It remains to be seen who Crystal Palace are drawn to face in Lake Como, but there is a very real possibility that Sage – described as the “perfect” coach – faces RC Lens in his first match since choosing to leave the French Cup winners.

It could be a pretty awkward affair for the Frenchman, considering L’Equipe say his relationship with RC Lens is now “impossible” to rebuild after he made it clear he wanted to replace Oliver Glasner.

Where do you think we can finish in the UEFA Europa League next season after victory in Leipzig? 🤔

If Nottingham Forest can reach the last four while in a relegation battle, surely we can at least make the final? 👀

Not only that, but it could also make for quite an awkward conversation between supporters and their significant others, as Crystal Palace fans attempt to cram in this scenic trip either side of two European campaigns – make no mistake about it, this unprecedented success is certainly hitting fans hard in the pocket.
