Red and Blue View: Despite holding talks, Palace will struggle to sign 4-cap prospect

SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP

According to the Evening Standard, Crystal Palace have entered talks with Juventus centre-back Radu Drăgușin, who is a man in demand.

Calciomercato revealed that Newcastle, and also Champions League outfit RB Leipzig, are keen to sign the 4-cap Romania Under-19 international.

We’ve already documented how a young centre-back is exactly what we need, as all of Roy Hodgson’s current options are aged 30 or over.

However, despite holding talks with the 19-year-old, we might struggle to land him if RB Leipzig truly are interested.

They do seem to be, as the German outfit’s Sporting Director Markus Krosche commented on the club’s interest in Drăgușin.

Bild (via Goal – 13:30) quote him as saying: “These are interesting guys who, in terms of the overall package, would basically fit our philosophy.”

Unless Dougie Freedman pulls off a masterclass, we can’t see this deal happening if RB Leipzig are involved.

Regardless of their ability to offer the youngster Champions League football, they have an excellent record of developing bright defensive prospects.

You only need to take a look at Dayot Upamecano’s rise as proof of that.

The Frenchman joined the Bundesliga side from RB Salzburg for a sum of just £9 million back in 2017.

Now, he’s joining Bayern Munich in the summer for a fee of £38 million.

Additionally, his centre-back partner Ibrahima Konate is being targeted by Liverpool according to Sunday World, thanks to the work RB Leipzig have done to tutor him.

They are excellent developers of young talent, and have greater pulling power than us, sadly – we’d be very surprised if this deal happens.
