An update by Alan Nixon now states that Plymouth No.1 Michael Cooper is aware Crystal Palace want to sign him this summer.
Wayne Rooney’s side are currently demanding £3m to sell the 24-year-old, with Sheffield United and other Championship clubs also keen on the Englishman.
Nixon adds that Crystal Palace will bid for Cooper if Sam Johnstone departs, with the England international’s situation said to be the “looming problem” Glasner must deal with.
The 49-year-old has made Dean Henderson his No.1 since replacing Roy Hodgson, so when the £20m returns from his extended holiday after his UEFA Euro 2024 exploits with England, a decision must be made on Johnstone, who does not seem content to be No.2 for an entire season.
Nixon mentions that Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Leicester, Southampton and Bournemouth are in contention to sign the Crystal Palace No.1 as they aim to land an experienced glovesman this summer.

Ideally, we would be able to keep Johnstone as No.2 for the 2024/25 campaign, but you can understand if a goalkeeper of his quality wants to be No.1 elsewhere.
Nevertheless, if the 31-year-old’s exit causes Dougie Freedman to make a move for Cooper, that £3m asking price has already been paid for by Jake O’Brien’s impending move to Everton.
A story from The Athletic states that Crystal Palace are set to receive £3.2m from O’Brien’s £16.9m switch to Everton, thanks to a sell-on clause negotiated when selling the Irishman to Lyon in August 2023.
Therefore, if Freedman can secure a fee in the region of £10m for Johnstone, Crystal Palace would actually be making a very healthy profit from the changes in the goalkeeping department.
