Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Crystal Palace hope to receive at least £50m for Cheick Doucoure as Liverpool shortlist the Mali international.
That is according to The Athletic.
So, what is the situation involving Cheick Doucoure at Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the 23-year-old enjoyed a stunning debut campaign at Selhurst Park following a £21m move from RC Lens back in July 2022, when Patrick Vieira was at the helm.
Doucoure rightly won the Crystal Palace Player of the Season award for his superb efforts.
Now – however – those excellent displays have drawn attention from Liverpool.
The Athletic believe Jürgen Klopp is taking a look at Doucoure following unexpected interest in both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho from Saudi Arabia.
Al Ittihad are close to signing the latter in a £40m deal, while the England international has received an astonishing £700,000-a-week offer from Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq.
The Athletic add that Crystal Palace will only entertain a deal for Doucoure if a huge bid is made, and those at Selhurst Park are likely to use Southampton’s £50m valuation of Romeo Lavia as a reference figure.
Cheick Doucoure is worth more than £50m to Crystal Palace
In our view, Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman should be demanding more than £50m for Doucoure.
There were times last season when the entire midfield fell apart without the Malian holding things together, most notably in the humiliating 3-0 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park, where he was unavailable due to a one-game ban.
A player as reliable as Doucoure – who is still, somehow, only just 23 – is worth his weight in gold, and truthfully, we should be demanding at least £60m for a player who can pretty much do it all in midfield, goalscoring aside.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Liverpool set their sights on our No.28 this summer.
