Crystal Palace confirmed signings, transfers in and out, loan exits, releases for 2023/24

Crystal Palace are set for a busy summer transfer window in 2023 under a new head coach following Roy Hodgson’s departure. So, keep up to date on all confirmed signings and players released at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles remain on the hunt for a new head coach after Hodgson left Selhurst Park at the end of the season. He came out of retirement in March to replace Patrick Vieira in charge and led Crystal Palace to Premier League safety. The south London outfit ended the 2022/23 season in 11th place, above Chelsea.

Vieira oversaw the Premier League’s third-smallest spend in the last summer transfer window as Crystal Palace paid out £32m. Jefferson Lerma – Crystal Palace confirmed their first signing of the summer sales on June 8 with a free transfer for the AFC Bournemouth midfielder. The Eagles moved to secure the 28-year-old before he left the south coast side at the end of his contract on June 30. He made 184 appearances with the Cherries.

Matheus Franca – Crystal Palace secured the arrival of the 19-year-old from Flamengo on August 5. The Eagles paid an initial £17m, rising to £26m after add-ons, for the Brazilian wonderkid who can play as an attacking or central midfielder or as a striker. He left Flamengo after nine goals in 54 first-team matches.

Fionn Mooney – Real Valladolid confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old from Crystal Palace on August 9. The midfielder had been a part of the Eagles’ academy since the Under-11 level and he won the 2020/21 U18 Premier League title. Mooney moved to Spain on an initial two-year contract without a senior debut.

Jake O’Brien – Lyon announced the arrival of the 22-year-old from Crystal Palace in a deal worth in excess of €1m (£850k) on August 15. The Ligue 1 giants beat out rival interest from Manchester City in a €1.35m (£1.1m) move. O’Brien can become just the second Irish player after Mick McCarthy to ever play for Lyon.

Owen Goodman – Colchester United confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old on loan from Crystal Palace on July 14. The goalkeeper agreed to a season-long switch to the League Two team for his first move away from south London. He joined the Eagles’ academy at the U13 level but is yet to register his senior debut.

Kofi Balmer – Port Vale confirmed the signing of the 22-year-old on loan from Crystal Palace for the 23/24 season on July 15. The centre-half enjoyed a regular role with the Eagles’ U21s in 22/23 after joining from Larne FC in August 2022. He started his career with Ballymena United before leaving the club in July 2021.

Luke Plange – Carlisle United secured the arrival of the 20-year-old on loan from Crystal Palace on August 1. The forward will spend the first half of the 2023/24 League One season with the Cumbrians. His switch follows spells at RWD Molenbeek and Lincoln City in 22/23 that yielded a total of two goals in 35 outings.

Scott Banks – FC St Pauli announced the arrival of the 21-year-old in a season-long loan deal from Crystal Palace on August 10. The midfielder also agreed to extend his contract at Selhurst Park before heading to Germany. He has been at Palace since 2020 but sealed loans to Alloa Athletic, Dunfermline and Bradford.

Killian Phillips – Wycombe Wanderers secured the signing of the 21-year-old on loan from Crystal Palace for the 2023/24 season on August 11. The Republic of Ireland midfielder also agreed to a new contract at Selhurst Park first. He won Shrewsbury Town’s Young Player of the Season award whilst on loan in 2023.

Jack Butland – Crystal Palace confirmed on June 6 that the 30-year-old would leave Selhurst Park at the end of his contract. The former England goalkeeper had spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan with Manchester United. Rangers also confirmed the signing of Butland in a free transfer on June 6.

James McArthur – Crystal Palace announced on May 24 that the 35-year-old was to leave Selhurst Park at the end of his contract on June 30. Neil Warnock signed the ex-Scotland midfielder from Wigan Athletic for £5.5m in September 2014. McArthur made 253 appearances for the Eagles and retired on August 7.

Luka Milivojevic – Crystal Palace confirmed on May 24 that the 32-year-old would leave Selhurst Park at the end of his contract. The former Serbia midfielder had a reduced role during the 2022/23 season in his final campaign as the Eagles’ captain. He had 198 appearances for the club after arriving in January 2017.

Wilfried Zaha – Galatasaray announced the signing of the 30-year-old on July 24 following the expiration of his contract with Crystal Palace. The Eagles had retained hope that the Ivory Coast forward would stay at Selhurst Park. Their academy graduate scored 90 and assisted 76 goals in 458 games over two spells.

The Eagles published their full released and retained list for the 2023/24 season on June 16 with a raft of Crystal Palace’s academy players axed. Their youngsters leaving when their contracts lapse are as follows:

Joshua Addae – Kalani Barton – Ryan Bartley –  Freddie Bell – David Boateng – Maliq Cadogan – Junior Dixon – Reece Hannam – James Leonard – Cameron Lewis-Brown – David Omilabu – Daniel Quick – Basilio Rieno – Matthew Vigor

Every loan deal that Crystal Palace let expire

Albert Sambi Lokonga – Crystal Palace signed the 23-year-old on loan from Arsenal in January 2023 under Vieira. But the Eagles’ deal to hire the Belgian for the rest of the season did not include an option to buy. He also featured nine times and started in six games for the Selhurst Park side before falling out of favour.

Every academy player Crystal Palace have signed

Chimaechi Eze – Crystal Palace confirmed the signing of the attacker for their Under-21s academy team on July 4. The Eagles gave the brother of Eberechi Eze a contract with the club following his trial period at the end of the 2022/23 season. He had previously been a member of the U18s at Queens Park Rangers.

Chris Francis – Crystal Palace confirmed the signing of the centre-half for their Under-21 academy side on August 1. The 20-year-old joined the Eagles after a year in the U21 ranks at AFC Bournemouth, which also yielded a loan spell at Weymouth. He has also played with Swindon Town’s U18s and with North Leigh FC.

Justin Devenny – Crystal Palace added the 19-year-old to their U21 side in a transfer from Airdrieonians FC on August 21. The left-midfielder only joined the Airdrie outfit last year after first plying his trade with the academy fold at Kilmarnock. He left Airdrieonians with five goals and seven assists from 54 senior outings.

Roshaun Mathurin – Crystal Palace announced the arrival of the 19-year-old for their Under-21 team after impressing on trial. The winger featured for the Eagles’ academy against Manchester United and Reading. The ex-Chelsea talent also scored against the Red Devils to seal a move after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

Along with strengthening their Under-23 academy team, Crystal Palace confirmed the signings of an array of new Under-18 talents on scholarship contracts for the 2023/24 season on August 8, and are as follows:
