Crystal Palace have now completed the signing of Craig Farquhar from Larne.

The news was confirmed on Crystal Palace’s official website earlier on Tuesday.

So, what is the situation involving Craig Farquhar and Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

Crystal Palace sign Craig Farquhar

Well, as detailed on the club’s official website, Crystal Palace have secured the Irishman’s signature after monitoring him for a “long period of time” – according to Academy Director Gary Issott.

Farquhar gained UEFA Champions League experience during his time at Larne, appearing against HJK in the 2023 qualifying rounds, which the Irish outfit sadly lost 3-2 across two legs.

In total, the towering 20-year-old has amassed 53 appearances in senior football, scoring four goals, impressing enough to earn a move to Selhurst Park.

To expand on the aforementioned Issott’s comments, the Academy Director said: “Craig is a player that the club has watched over a long period of time.

“He’s a young centre-half that’s experienced both first-team and European football early in his career and he has all the attributes to play at the highest levels in the game. Craig joins our Under-21s and will add competition in the defensive part of the pitch.”

Dougie Freedman has his eyes on Ireland

Farquhar is not the only Irish talent to join Crystal Palace in recent times.

Before the Ballymena-born defender sealed his move to SE25, Dougie Freedman has overseen deals to sign the likes of Kofi Balmer and Franco Umeh as well, both of whom are very highly rated.

It is certainly an interesting approach – few Irish talents have emerged in the Premier League across recent times aside from Evan Ferguson, who Crystal Palace’s bitter rivals Brighton actually poached.

Nevertheless, Freedman clearly sees huge value in bringing Ireland’s top prospects to south London, and only time will tell if it pays off for the Eagles.
