Crystal Palace are claimed to be “anxious” over a possible approach from one of their Premier League rivals for Eberechi Eze this summer, according to recent reports.

Eberechi Eze has grown into one of the brightest talents in England since moving to Selhurst Park, improving season-on-season.

The 26-year-old has made over 120 appearances for Crystal Palace across all competitions, scoring 26 goals and assisting 17.

Eze’s ball-carrying and ability to get out of tight spaces have made him invaluable to Palace in recent years and to England as of the summer.

However, with Oliver Glasner looking to build his squad towards the future, there are concerns over which key players will stay.

Newcastle threat in Eberechi Eze transfer

Eze has been linked with plenty of transfer speculation this summer, with his impressive performances naturally bringing about some suitors.

Tottenham and Manchester City have been amongst those teams rumoured with interest, though a move has yet to be made.

Reports have also claimed that Eze has a release clause in his contract at Crystal Palace that could play a role in any deal.

However, the latest update could see Newcastle join the mix, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon.

He said, via his Patreon, that Palace are currently “anxious” that they could receive an approach from the Magpies if they lose Anthony Gordon.

Gordon, an England teammate of Eze’s, has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer in the range of £75million.

While there is a large knock-on effect of any move, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle could trigger the release clause of Eze to make their move.

Crystal Palace must prepare for Eberechi Eze exit

While, in an ideal world, Crystal Palace wouldn’t have to worry about anything, the reality is that it would be better to prepare for the worst eventuality.

If the new season were to roll around and Eze left late on, then Glasner would have very little time to find a suitable replacement.

This is accentuated by the fact that a natural replacement for Michael Olise is still yet to be found following his switch to Bayern Munich.

It may play a role in why Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is yet to be sent on loan for the campaign, due to his ability to cover both flanks or the attacking midfield role.

Either way, the worst-case scenario is starting the season with both Eze and Olise gone, so it may be time to accelerate some of those transfer plans behind the scenes.
