Crystal Palace now close to selling another player in £70m deal after Joachim Andersen and Jordan Ayew exits

Crystal Palace fans have only just waved goodbye to Joachim Andersen and Jordan Ayew – but another departure could now happen.

Steve Parish allowed the Denmark international to seal a £30m move to Fulham, while Ayew was sold to Leicester in an £8m deal – which represents healthy profit on the £2.5m initially spent to sign the Ghana international from Swansea.

Fans will be satisfied by that business as long as replacements are signed – in our belief – although Crystal Palace now risk angering supporters as another sale is being seriously considered…

Crystal Palace and Newcastle close to Marc Guehi agreement

A story from the Daily Mail now states that Crystal Palace and Newcastle are close to reaching an agreement over Marc Guehi in a deal worth £70m.

It is said that a new round of negotiations took place on Monday – which were positive for the Magpies – and Newcastle’s next bid is expected to be accepted.

The Daily Mail add that Crystal Palace are giving genuine consideration to selling Guehi – despite the fact there are less than four days of the transfer window remaining, and having already sold Andersen.

Should Newcastle have a bid accepted by Crystal Palace, the England international can still choose to decline a move to Tyneside and stay at Selhurst Park, although Parish would then be unlikely to ever receive a fee as high as £70m for the 24-year-old, who will only have 12 months left on his contract next summer.

Dougie Freedman has a new defender lined up regardless

Whatever happens with Guehi, Dougie Freedman is close to signing a new defender regardless.

The Daily Mail mention that Crystal Palace expect to complete a deal for VfL Wolfsburg No.4 Maxence Lacroix in the coming days, which backs up what sources informed We Are Palace last week, after a £14m bid was made for the Frenchman.

Some may argue that another central defender is needed even if Lacroix is secured, should Guehi follow Andersen out of SE25, although we must not forget about the presence of Chadi Riad, who was signed in a £14m deal from Real Betis early in the summer to prepare for a situation like this.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Crystal Palace, as we are expecting a busy week.
