Crystal Palace’s search for a new striker has potentially led them to a player who’s been compared with Real Madrid legend Raul.

One area which Crystal Palace have been needing to strengthen this season is up front, and now it looks as though there’s substantial interest in an exciting target.

Palace have struggled to score this season with Jean-Philippe Mateta – until recently – being poor in front of goal, along with Odsonne Edouard who has been good but the thinking is Palace need better.

With players like Michael Olise in the team, any striker would be lucky to play for Palace, this isn’t how Mateta sees it though as he looks likely to depart in January.

Now, Palace have been tipped as being keen to sign La Liga sensation Borja Mayoral according to recent reports.

Crystal Palace interested in Borja Mayoral

According to TeamTalk, Palace are chasing the signature of 12-goal La Liga striker Mayoral. He’s been in rampant form this season and has attracted interest from Fulham along with the Eagles.

Mayoral has been great in front of goal for Getafe where he plays alongside Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood. In La Liga only Jude Bellingham has scored more as he has 13.

The striker joined Getafe in 2022 for £9 million from Real Madrid where he was once an extremely exciting prospect. He is also no stranger to Palace as it was also reported in 2021 that he was wanted at Selhurst Park.

The talented forward has also received a seal of approval Zinedine Zidane who compared Mayoral to Real Madrid legend Raul recently.

Where would Mayoral fit in at Palace?

Mayoral would be an incredible signing for Palace and possibly a striker who could be first choice. He is a talented number nine who has shown his goalscoring acumen this season against some of La Liga’s elite.

This included a brace on Tuesday night against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in a 3-3 draw.

Alongside Edouard, the pair would be a really solid set of options for Palace and the fact he’s scored so many in a Getafe side who often set up defensively is a positive sign for whoever the Palace boss is after January.

A signing who would be perfect for Palace and could still improve given he is still just 26-years-old and coming into his prime.
