Crystal Palace are exploring their options in the January transfer window, and Luton Town defender Teden Mengi has now piqued their interest.

Mengi, 21, joined the Premier League newcomers from Manchester United in August, and has been an impressive performer despite their tough start to life in the top flight.

Crystal Palace are said to be in the market for a left-back and a midfielder, but in recent days they have been linked with Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera and now Mengi, perhaps hinting that they are preparing for life without one of Joachim Andersen or Marc Guehi.

Both players have been linked with moves away, and whilst they may not depart in January, Palace have now identified two top young talents who could replace them in the long run.

Crystal Palace are interested in Teden Mengi

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Palace and Fulham are both interested in the 21-year-old in the coming windows.

“Understand Fulham and Crystal Palace are now following Luton Town’s CB Teden Mengi for the future,” he posted on X.

“He has become one of PL promising youngsters by leading U-21 players with the highest percentage of defensive duels won in Europe’s top 5 leagues this campaign,” he added.

A move for Mengi in the January window, assuming both Andersen and Guehi stay, seems highly unlikely.

Palace’s budget is limited, and Luton may not be willing to let a key player leave in the middle of the season.

However, with Luton currently in the relegation zone, if they do go down, Mengi could become an attainable option in the summer.

Romano’s post indicates that Palace see Mengi as someone to keep an eye on for the future, and that perhaps means that a summer move is far more likely than a winter one.
